While creating Revit-Families with MEP place the connectors on Reference Planes, so the geometry can fail but the connection is still valid.
The direction in which the reference planes are drawn is key, because the vector of the creation defines the normal vector.
The reference plane has to be named to be selectable in the place on work plane drop down list.
An Object such as a pipe connector is then automatically placed on that side of the plane.
